As the children will be visiting London tomorrow for their residential, they looked at maps of London. They drew a map, highlighting the human features they will be visiting. Then, they used the scale of the map to calculate the distance between certain places. Have a great time away.
During their lesson this week, the children used their compass directions and locational language as well as their knowledge of the land to help them explain which way they would travel to different locations. Using an atlas to support their decisions they located: Peru, Montevideo, Lake Titicaca, Stanley and Manaus. They then watched a clip about how the Uros people live on Totora reeds and their lifestyle. Using Venn diagrams they collated the similarities and differences between how the Uros people and how we live. The children then looked at different artefacts, photos and clothing from Peru. They loved it.
