French: Monter un Cafe

 Year 6 started their new topic all about setting up a cafe. They started by looking at a French cafe menu, and writing down any words they knew. They then wrote down unknown words and spent some time using e French/ English dictionary to write down the meanings. 

This last week they labelled some food vocabulary and practised the past tense, by telling choosing an item from the menu and telling their partner what they had eaten and drunk.

As the week draws to a close, year 6 have been concluding their unit on place value by studying negative numbers and rounding. We spoke about how we encounter negative numbers in every day life (temperature, finances etc). This week's mathematical word of the week was integer; please ask your children what it means and for them to give some examples.

Assessment

 This week, the children completed their assessment question, How are natural disasters caused and what effect do they have? I was really proud of every year 6 child as they were able to recall the facts and share their knowledge.  During the second part of the lesson, the children were introduced to 6 grid references. They did a great job in their first lesson.
