Year 6 found out about French Easter traditions and how the French celebrate Easter. They learnt some Easter vocabulary which they then used to complete a crossword puzzle.
Spring B Unit: Resurrection Religion: Christianity Key Question: Why is resurrection important to Christians? We enjoyed a really thoughtful and deep-thinking discussion involving the importance of resurrection to Christians and how Jesus is the only prophet to come back to life.
Today we learnt about the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi that commemorates the origins of the religion. To celebrate Vaisakhi, Sikhs will visit places of worship called Gurdwaras. Many people enjoy parades and special processions through the streets called Nagar Kirtans. Many Sikhs also choose Vaisakhi as the day to be baptised in to the Khalsa brotherhood. Often flags will be raised around the country displaying the Sikh symbol. We used the quilling method to decorate our own Sikh symbol, it took a lot of concentration as it was very fiddly!
Over the last few weeks, Year 6 practised numbers and learnt how to say the year in French. They also looked at the past tense of the verb is and have/ has. They also learnt some new vocabulary which they could use to compare past and present. They learnt these opposites and used them in sentences along with the past tense. .
Year 6 started a new topic, all about the past and the present. They revised places found in town vocabulary from year 5 and were introduced to new vocabulary, which they then practised. Last week, they learnt how to say the date. They practised numbers and to 100 and practised saying the date
In History this week, Year 6 have been working hard on their Double Page Spreads, showing off everything they have learned about the Ancient Maya Civilisation! We look forward to seeing them when they are complete.
